Kids Bike Library
Children’s bikes cost money. Even the smallest bike can cost anywhere from £100 to £400.00 and unfortunately children have a habit of growing so a child potentially might only use a bike for a year.
Drumchapel Cycle Hub have received in excess of 300 donated bikes this year and many of the children’s bikes donated have had very little use. The bikes are often left to gather dust or rust in the cupboard or outdoors but we have an amazing team of staff and volunteers who can work their magic to bring them back to life.
With the ever-increasing cost of living, we can help our member families save money by providing refurbished bikes for children, subject to availability of suitable sizes.
This also goes a long way towards helping the environment by reducing waste and tackling issues such as fly-tipping/dumping when bikes are left to the elements.
Even if donated bikes cannot be repaired, we can strip off usable parts to repair other bikes and recycle what we can.
Our extensive bike library means that we can provide a bike for a child at no additional cost to the membership, for as long as the child needs or uses the bike.
Once the child outgrows the bike, or it is no longer in use, the family just brings it back to us to be added back in to the library and we will take care of repairs, punctures and servicing.
